In 2006, Michael embarked on a mission to form an authentic tribute to Johnny Cash. He spent months immersing himself in Cash’s extensive repertoire and studying every available concert video to perfect his show. In January 2007, The Mighty Cash Cats made their debut performance, quickly gaining recognition, and securing a booking agency that enabled them to tour extensively across the USA.

In 2008, Michael expanded the band with the addition of Leticia Blumette as his June Carter, adding the Johnny and June duet experience to the stage. Michael’s performances have captivated audiences worldwide, from the USA to Europe, Asia, and Israel. He has received rave reviews and endorsements from members of The Cash family. Johnny’s daughter, Cindy Cash, who has sung duets in concert with Michael, shared her appreciation, saying, “Michael, Thank you for what you’re doing! You have it down!” Daughter, Kathy Cash, also expressed her gratitude, stating, “Thank you, Michael Jay, for all you do to spread Dad’s music and legacy.”

In 2023, Michael Jay was inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame in a ceremony hosted by William Shatner, who remarked, “Michael, you do Johnny proud!” Michael was asked to present his Johnny Cash Tribute at the book launch of legendary LA Times music critic Robert Hilburn’s bestselling biography, “Johnny Cash–The Life.” Hilburn praised the show with a tweet, calling it “A wonderful presentation of Johnny Cash’s music.” After being asked to do a concert at LA’s Grammy Museum for a Johnny Cash Retrospective, The Ventrua Star wrote, “The Best Johnny Cash Tribute, Michael Jay and his Mighty Cash Cats band, is right here in ‘The 805′”

The Pasadena Weekly hailed Michael’s show as “An International Sensation,” The LA Examiner described it as “Just Like Johnny and June,” The Salt Lake Tribune noted it’s “As Close As You Can Get to the Real Thing,” and the Jerusalem Post declared, “The Audience Felt Johnny Cash Returned.”
